Lived Lectio Evangelization
Lived Lectio is our brand of event targeted at engaging individuals and families who want an extraordinary experience of their faith. It is filled with adventure, entry level scripture study, fellowship and prayer. The goal of any Lived Lectio adventure is for participants to create community with one another, to stretch themselves in a new task, to hear Scripture in a new way and then to open themselves to the person of Jesus in and through prophetic and healing prayer.
Q&A
What does “Lived Lectio” mean?
Lived Lectio is our hybrid of Lectio Divina and adventure activities. Lectio Divina is the ancient practice of reading and experiencing the Scriptures through meditation and contemplation. Lived Lectio aims to combine the life-changing impact of the living Word with an unforgettable experience that appeals to the adventurous joy-seeking hearts in the world.
Why is adventure so important?
Adventurous activities attract the people that the Church has been desperately trying to reach: those willing to take risks to achieve great goals, many of whom are men.
Risk takers and adventure seekers were the kinds of people that Jesus surrounded Himself with. They were people who gave up everything to follow Him closely, they were leaders, martyrs and saints.
Adventure seekers are precisely the people that the church needs right now. The gifts and attributes of those who say “yes” to adventure are an encouragement to those communities that are finding themselves burdened by complacency.
Where do these events take place?
The Tejeda family, Carlos and Elena, will come to you. There is no need for you or your attendees to spend the night somewhere or have a long drive.
What kind of adventure activities can you offer?
Recreational tree climbing, geocaching day hikes (treasure hunts using GPS), indoor/outdoor team building, tactical training events, action packed pilgrimages that include canoeing, go-karts and shrines are just a few of the things we have done before.
Once we know your location, Carlos will use his planning skills to create an adventure tailored to your goals and your target audience.
Give me an example or two…
Half-Day event (4 hours): Mercy Tree arranges a climbing location with your property or a local park and makes sure the tree is completely safe and ready for the event. Attendees are invited to reflect on the story of Zaccheaus in the Gospel of Luke with their family, friends, or organization and then receive instruction on safe tree climbing procedures and begin their ascent into the canopy. As the groups finishes their time in the tree, we invite climbers to hear our testimony and enter into a time of healing and prophetic prayer.
Full Day Example (8 hours): Mercy Tree Adventures partners with former special operations warriors to learn how it is that “grace presupposes and perfects nature.” What does it mean to be a confirmed soldier of Christ? What did the “strong driving wind” at Pentecost feel like? How does one navigate through the pilgrimage of life? Marksmanship and combatives training, an explosive door breach and a land navigation practicum are all used to bring Scripture alive in new and unforgettable ways for the participants while simultaneously building fraternity.
What is healing and prophetic prayer?
With training from the Encounter School of Ministry, we share this type of intercessory prayer with those who are open. We have seen people experience relief from muscle pain, receive healing from joint injuries, and most importantly have an encounter with the presence of God leading to greater trust in God’s love.
God asks His people to pray and so we invite others, at their own level of comfort, to allow us to pray for the intentions they hold in their heart. We are here to accompany and intercede.
To note, we cannot and do not promise healing as we are not the ones who give it. We are like the people in the Gospel who lowered their paralytic friend down on the mat through the roof; we accompany and help others to sit before Jesus and receive what He desires to give.
What happens after a Lived Lectio Experience?
After Lived Lectio it is time to invite these risk takers into greater relationship with Christ and your community.
If you need assistance with this next step, our Greenhouse will equip your community to invite and receive new people with joy and ease.
Are you insured?
Yes. Carlos is also trained and certified to help you climb trees and keep you safe while doing it. Carlos has a degree in forest science and has worked as a climbing arborist (full and part time) over the last 16 years and is a certified tree inspector. Any other professionals involved in adventure activities are insured and vetted.
How much does each event cost?
Costs vary depending upon location, and event length and type. Final costs will reflect our travel, safety equipment, insurance coverage, training and materials for your attendees.
